Son of a Concubine

I seriously have been doing too much oekaki lately. Too lazy/busy to actually CG. P:
Anyways, this is a young version of Gen (with a rainbow bruise). c: He's twelve-ish here? tl;dr story below. He's one of the judges/my OC for the Four Nations Tournament/Avatar the Last Airbender.

So, Gen's father was Lord of a wealthy family. However, his mother was a servant, and although she was going to become a concubine, she became pregnant before the marriage. Gen's mother hid Gen's existence until he was born, pretending to be sick and not letting anyone see her, except for a select few. A little bit after his birth, the marriage still had not happened, and the Lord was found sleeping with Gen's mother. This was unacceptable, since Gen's mother was not the Lord's concubine yet, but the Lord had a first wife. The Lord accused Gen's mother of seducing him, and she was banished from the compound. Another servant found Gen as a toddler, and not knowing where he came from, decided to raise him. He became the page of the Lord's son, who was, ironically, his half-brother. As he grew older, his resemblance to his mother grew stronger. At age twelve, Gen's father realized that Gen was his illegitimate son, and beat him, feeling that his past had come to haunt him. While beating him, Gen's father told Gen the story of his birth and dumped Gen onto the streets. Gen was, yet again, taken in by someone else, this time a Confucian monk.

He was raised with many Confucian ideals, but struggles with being able to follow the way. Because of his past, Gen has a little bit of a violent streak now and then. Though it takes a lot of provoke him, he becomes very angry when he is.
